The same thing was happening with the PS4, while we had a very functional unofficial RetroArch PS4 port as seen here in the forums by the dev, it was never adopted in the official project's mainline repo, because the official team preferred a OrbisDev (OpenSource SDK) PS4 port. As the official team removed the old PS3 port in favor of the Open Source psl1ght SDK. For sometime there has been an unofficial port of RetroArch PS4 by develope r, who (unrelated to ps4) also shared recently his progress on the psl1ght port for the PS3 here forums, to help bring the PS3 back into the mainline RetroArch repo.
